Surdo Section

Tamborim Section

A small hand-held drum with a high, piercing sound, played with a plastic beater. A playing technique called virado is often used, in which the drum is rapidly flipped upside-down to produce ghost notes and syncopated grooves. The instrument may also occasionally be struck on the rim.

Tamborim players alternate between repetitive groove patterns and through-composed signature phrases which function as a melody and are easily distinguished above the other percussion instruments. The tamborim rhythms are complementary to the caixa patterns.

Jeremy Shing

Jeremy Shing

Voted most likely to keep a *detailed* record of his peers.
Jeremy is known to award his precious Shing-Points to people who have simply amazed him anywhere, anyhow, anytime. And how else would he have remembered them all without records. So, fluff your stuff, dress to impress. Rumor has it that Shing-Points are able to redeem anything from a kiss to a LV merchandise. Redeemed items are not exchangeable. While stocks last.

Denise

Denise Tan

Voted most likely to make you weak in Denise.
Save the cheerleader, save the world. Denise was previously a cheerleader for 6 years before succumbing to Samba’s eardrum shattering music and so-NOT-cheerleading beats but the tagline still applies. Should she experience accelerated heart pulsations or increasing blood pressure while playing the virada, save her. Please.

Natalie

Natalie Pua

Voted most likely to hand spasm while playing the virada.

Jonathan

Jonathan Ng

Voted most likely to burn the dance floor!
Jonathan is like an excited hamster who can’t get enough of samba! Don’t be deceived by his goody boy exterior…
Inside him is a spirit full of fire and passion, ready to dance to the groovy beats of the samba fever…
Think you are hot enough? Think again..

Novabelle

Novabelle Ng

Voted most likely to accidentally punch Angel during Coco.
Novabelle is a Level 1 Tambs player. One of her special abilities is her ultimate enthusiasm. She is easily one of the wackiest players who gets really hyped up while grooving to the Samba beat. This is especially evident during Groove 3 of Coco, where the famous funky punching action becomes a liability for the Agogo players standing in front of the tambs players, especially Angeline. Novabelle will be more harmless after evolving into Level 2.

Thiam Kee

Tan Thiam Kee

Voted most likely to be really humble.
A huge muscular hunk standing in the front lines, TTK picks up a tiny instrument and goes “BOOMZ”. Be sure to watch out for him. Remember: tall, dark and handsome.

Hui Yi

Tay Hui Yi

Voted most likely to be the almost invisible one in Samba Masala.
But that's only because she has powers similar to that of Susan Storm, Samba Style - may vanish halfway during performances to generate pulsating vibrant force fields from the crowd. Step step, hahaha, step step, rawr.

Kah Leng

Wong Kah Leng

Genevieve

Genevieve Wong

Voted most likely to get her energy expended by writing descriptions of herself.
Genevieve, a year 2 tamborim player, loves gyrating to the addictive, pulsating beats of samba masala.

Jeremy Poh

Jeremy Poh

Voted most likely to be the energizer bunny!
With a experience of level 2  tamb’s flipping, he never fails to shake and grove to the sound of samba… of course, until the batteries died. But as you know, energizer bunny never stops! So watch out for Poh as he shake his way through the long hours of Busking.

Samantha

Samantha Kwan

Voted most likely to be thick-skinned.
Samantha, a year 2 Tamborim player, enjoys performing in front of large crowds and smiling for the camera :D

LiBing

Tan Li Bing

Voted most likely to co-host a filipino-accented talk show.
Libing has been known during Samba practices to keep tempo by counting "pibe, six, seben, eht..". Her accent provides entertainment for long dreary Samba roadtrips. An array of other accents are available upon request - terms and conditions apply.

Yang Fan

Yang Fan

Voted most likely to a good balancer of a fast-rotating Tamborim
Yang Fan, year 2 Tamborim player. Proud to be in the section with the smallest instrument in Samba yet producing the LOUDEST music.

Yan Bin

Tan Yan Bin

Voted most likely to get too high performing.
Yanbin is the Jack-of-all-instruments in Samba Masala. Knowing just enough to get by with each instrument, he is currently trying to conquer the Timbals. Do watch out for his hand-numbing performance in the future!

Jean

Jean Tang

Voted most likely to be the tallest girl in samba
Jean has been known to block people's view of the repinique since she stands front row with the awesome tambs. There is nothing she can do about it as her little wooden tamb loves her.

Soe Sandy Tun

Voted most likely to get random when stressed.
Sandy has been in Samba Masala for two years and is still in love with the numbing sensation during practices.

Cindy

Chin Sin Yee

Christopher

Christopher Koh
